The Seagrass Stool
We do not see Seagrasas weaving very often.
This little stool was brought to the studio to have it re-woven. The customer's Grandfather had crafted the stool and then wove it.
Seagrass weaving when done on stools like this or four rail chairs is done the same way  one may weave fiber rush. The knots are more difficult to get tight because  of its lack of flexibility. The other main difference from fiber rush weaving is that Seagrass can not  be  flattened to fill in gaps in the finished chair or stool so one must pack very tightly

This material can also  be used to make chaises, loveseats and chairs that resemble wicker weaving.
The Seagrass weaving  has sagged and separated but we re-wove it and made it pretty again!

Old Seagrass has been cut out and the weaving is well  on its way. I haven't started packing it yet so it has gaps.
I have started packing it here. The cardboard  packing has to  slip into both the the top as well as the bottom. You do this same procedure when weaving with fiber rush.
VERY IMPORTANT !!!!! Always make certain your weaving is "square" You will be so, so sorry if you forget to do this little step !!

Yes,it is square.
All done and looking pretty good!
